Souq Waqif's history stretches back over a hundred years. It originally served as a meeting point for desert tribes and sailors docking at the nearby port. It was meticulously restored in 2006, reclaiming its authentic architectural character while preserving its deeply rooted heritage identity.
The market houses over 400 shops selling aromatic spices, oriental perfumes, traditional fabrics, jewelry, antiques, and souvenirs. It also features a large number of restaurants serving authentic Qatari cuisine and the finest Eastern delicacies.
The souq hosts diverse cultural events year-round, from traditional falconry displays to handicraft art exhibitions and authentic Arabic music performances. Seasonal festivals are also held here, attracting thousands of visitors from around the world.
The souq opens daily from 7am until midnight, and thrives especially in the evenings when it transforms into a more vibrant and magical place, particularly between October and March.
